The New Year seems to have this ‘wipe the slate clean’ effect on me. It brings the opportunity of a fresh start, hope, and at the same time, a goodbye to all of last year’s chaos. I’m not quite sure why January 1st is just another day, but my brain tells me to get re-focused and think about what’s important and why. Somehow, I get this feeling that Romans knew what they were doing when they designed the calendar that way-I digress.

Losing unwanted body fat is almost a universal goal in our modern world. It is a road that takes persistence, patience, self-discipline and hard work. Often I am asked how fast fat loss should occur, or if a person’s fat loss over a given period is ‘good?’. Unfortunately, TV shows like The Biggest Loser set unrealistic expectations about how fast fat loss should occur-and in my opinion they overplay the importance of how fast a person loses body fat.
